With a stated goal to “to grow all western sports and the western lifestyle back into the mainstream consciousness,” CBS Sports — which has televised Professional Bull Riders on CBS and CBS Sports Network since 2012 – and PBR have signed an expanded agreement for CBS to broadcast marquee rodeo events and the PBR Global Cup as the primary distribution partner.
The league will also offer fans new access to rodeo on RidePass, the new digital sports network.
New and expanded relationships with western sports organizations include Calgary Stampede, Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo, Cheyenne Frontier Days, WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance), National High School Rodeo and Indian National Finals Rodeo.
This past weekend, PBR and World Champions Rodeo Alliance unveiled a $6 million prize purse that will encompass eight events over the next year, along with a world ranking system for athletes to qualify for high-payout rodeos as well as “other growth initiatives for the industry.”
The $6 million in payouts will be comprised of four large rodeos each featuring a $1 million purse, with four semi-final qualifier events proving the additional $2 million in prize money.
“PBR’s roots run deep in rodeo, and we will continue to champion the western lifestyle on all fronts,” Sean Gleason, CEO for PBR, said in a statement.
