The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo presented by Zions Bank is consistently regarded as one of the top rodeos in the nation, featuring the best in the country. The top competitors from around the nation will test their grit as they compete for a half a million dollar purse and the chance for a gold, silver or bronze medal. The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo is a destination rodeo for these champions, making it the perfect family event, offering fast-paced thrills for every age. It brings out the cowboy in all of us. Featured events include Bull Riding, Bareback and Saddle Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, Tie-Down Roping, and Women’s Breakaway Roping. The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo Salt Lake is a private, non-profit, volunteer, charitable organization, with a mission to honor our pioneer heritage and educate Utah’s kids. And let’s not forget – it’s a whole lotta fun.

Open From 4:00-11pm

Gates will open at 4:00 pm daily so fans can enjoy the historical exhibits (Native American encampment, Pioneer display and Mountain Man Camp), commercial exhibitors in an air conditioned area, great food, and preshow activities in the Fun Zone area including a Longhorn display, handcart racing and a carnival. Entry to the Fun Zone is free and located on the Utah State Fairpark.

Pre-Rodeo entertainment in the main arena will feature the Young Guns Rodeo showcasing the future stars of the sport. A rodeo ticket will be required for admission to this area.

    Young Guns Rodeo

    Young Guns Rodeo – Come and watch tomorrow’s world champion cowboys and cowgirls as they compete in the Days of ’47 Young Guns Rodeo.  Kids from the ages of 6 – 17 will be competing in the bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and mini/junior bull riding.  Winners each day will be recognized during the nightly performance.  The action starts in the main arena at 4:30 each day and will also include mutton busting.     Mutton Busting –  For those kids that aren’t quite ready for the bucking horses and bulls, the Young Guns Rodeo will also feature mutton busting. There will be three sections each day. Always a crowd favorite, the mutton busting gives the younger kids an opportunity to “Get Their Cowboy On.” *NOTE: ALL MUTTON BUSTERS MUST BE UNDER 50LBS AND BETWEEN THE AGES OF 3 AND 8. NO EXCEPTIONS!

    Native American Village

    In the heart of the fan zone, take a walk through Native American history where your family can witness three authentic Lakota Tribe families as they demonstrate life on the prairie. Authentic teepees, tribal dances, and food preparations are all a part of this unique slice of Utah Western culture.

    Pioneer Camp

    Experience life on the pioneer trail. Families who were a part of the 1997 reenactment of the wagon trail from Mississippi to Utah will be on hand to interact with the fans while displaying handmade tools, custom weaving, pioneer cooking, and a complete pioneer medical camp.

    Mountain Men Trading Camp

    This authentic trading camp will offer the chance to learn from real frontiersmen. Fans can view, handle and purchase genuine handmade custom tools, blankets and everything a true mountain man would need to tackle the harsh conditions of the Utah terrain.

    Tiny Tots Petting Zoo

    This free exhibit allows the entire family to spend some quality time with their favorite animals. Fun for all ages!

    Kids 12 and under can take one FREE ride on their favorite pony. Additional rides subject to a fee.

    Have you heard? The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo will once again feature a Carnival in the Fun Zone. Providers of Family Fun – Midway of Fun has been generating laughter and smiles for over 35 years. There will be something for the whole family from kiddie rides, to thrill rides and funnel cakes. Make plans to come enjoy the fun opening 4 p.m. daily July 20-24 and closing at 11 p.m.

  • Road To The Horse Collegiate Colt Starting Competition

    The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo is excited to continue to add to its legacy in the Salt Lake Valley by expanding events featured in conjunction with the World’s Only Gold Medal Rodeo. In 2021, Road to the Horse Collegiate Colt Starting Competition will be added to the schedule.

    With an emphasis on education, Road to the Horse has inspired and fostered a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of natural horsemanship within its fan base. Since its inception in 2003, cultivating a solid foundation of natural horsemanship and strengthening equine partnerships have served as key principles of Road to the Horse, and one is hard pressed to find a more fitting classroom than the collegiate equestrian arena. Road to the Horse is honored to co-host the Collegiate Colt Starting Challenge in conjunction with the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo on July 23rd and July 24th at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center in South Jordan, Utah.

    Three top collegiate teams will compete for $30,000 in scholarships during the Collegiate Colt Starting Challenge, which requires each team to gentle a colt and display the highest standards of horsemanship over a two-day period. Top regional horsemanship teams will represent University Montana Western, Utah Valley University and Casper Community College.
