DAYS OF ’47 COWBOY GAMES & RODEO ADDS PRIEFERT PATRIOT LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER
SALT LAKE CITY (May 10, 2019) – The Komatsu Equipment Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo presented by Zions Bank is excited to announce an additional opportunity for timed event cowboys and cowgirls to qualify for the over $1 million Gold Medal Rodeo. This new gateway will be the Priefert Patriot Days of ’47, scheduled for July 20-21 at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park in South Jordan, Utah. The Priefert Patriot will serve as the last chance qualifier into the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo.
“We are excited to team up with THE PATRIOT to provide rodeo athletes yet another chance to fill their pockets and qualify for our over $1 million rodeo, with the added bonus of experiencing Utah and Life Elevated and all this great state has to offer,” said Tommy Joe Lucia, General Manager of the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo. “We featured the rough stock events in February at the Lewis Feild Bulls and Broncs event, and we are now pleased to offer the timed event contestants another opportunity through this Patriot Days of ’47 event.”
The Priefert Patriot Days of ’47 Last Chance Qualifier will include open jackpots in steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing and women’s breakaway roping with the winner in each discipline earning an automatic qualification to the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo in Salt Lake City and will compete during the third performance on Monday, July 22.
“The Days of ’47 is one of the most prestigious events in the world! Their facility, quality performances, and payout make this event one of the greatest opportunities for participants in rodeo history,” said Kevin Hall, with the Patriot Event. “Patriot participants from all over the world can enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery, qualify for the Days of ’47 Million Dollar payout, and compete on a stage that’s unlike any other. For the past few years, The Patriot has been working on implementing events with the World’s Top Rodeos. We are honored to be a part of the 2019 Days of ’47!”
The Priefert Patriot Days of ’47 Last Chance Qualifier will consist of multiple rounds in each discipline and is open to anyone. The average winners, not already qualified for the Days of ’47 Rodeo, must have nominated the Patriot Days of ’47 event in the World Champion’s Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) Virtual Rodeo Qualifier (VRQ) to be eligible to compete at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo. More information on how you can enter will be released soon at www.americanpatriotevent.com.
The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo will host a total of 288 competitors during the five day event in July 19-20, 22-24. The rodeo will feature 32 competitors in each event (bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, women’s breakaway roping and bull riding) with eight competitors per performance starting on Friday, July 19. The top two from each performance, along with two via the Wild Card category, will advance to the Gold Medal Round on July 24 where ten competitors in each event will compete in a sudden-death format with the winner collecting a Gold Medal and $50,000 cash.
The Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo will take place at the $17.5 million state-of-the-art Days of ’47 Arena at the Utah State Fairpark, custom designed and built for rodeo. The venue—an outdoor arena located in the heart of Salt Lake City—features over 10,000 stadium-style seats.
For only the fifth time in the history of rodeo, riders will have an opportunity to compete for Gold, Silver or Bronze Medals. The first two times were in conjunction with the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary (1988) and Salt Lake City (2002) when the rodeo was part of the Cultural Olympiad and the other two times being the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo in 2017 and 2018. The medals that will be awarded at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo will be produced by OC Tanner, the same company that made the Olympic medals for the champions of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
The Komatsu Equipment Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo will broadcast exclusively on PBR’s RidePass via RidePass.com or the RidePass mobile app. The final Gold Medal Round will be broadcast on CBS at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 28.
